Web 2.0 for Use in the Classroom:
These tools have been compiled for easy access when working on collaborative and creative projects.
What is Web 2.0?
Collaboration:
Stixy--online post-it notes for class collaborations (all are editable)
Scriblar--interactive whiteboard, can post pics/graphs and draw on them
WallWisher--ideas on how to use it (only editable by owner)
TodaysMeet --what is back channeling, ideas for use
Timetoast -- collaboratively create timelines
Exploratree -- collaborate on graphic organizers with real critical thinking questions from the teacher
Google Docs -- collaborate on docs, notes, spreadsheets and presentations (need a gmail address)
Skype -- Mrs. Warren will need to download--use for collaboration with other classrooms, experts or locations (not to video chat)
Voice Threads -- collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in 5 ways.
Creative Commons--Students are able to share their work with others and modify creations by other users. You can also get a copyright license for your work and refine how you want your work to be used by people on the site.
Live Binders- This online tool allows you to put all of your information in one place and create tabs just like you would with a physical binder. This is a free site that is great for portfolios or classroom organization, collaboration, and creation.
Creation:
Wordle -- create word clouds (use prt sc to paste it to a word doc)
Taxedo -- create shaped word clouds (you can make them out of your own blog, too)
Prezi -- a different presentation tool that can zoom in and out (Powerpoint on steroids)
Animoto -- create 30 second videos using your own photos--for free
Google Sites -- create your own website, portfolio or presentation. An overview is here.
Weebly -- create your own website, free (this is a Weebly website)
Spicy Nodes -- By going beyond menu bars and local search engines, SpicyNodes is a new way to put information at your fingertips. Make sure to visit the homepage to see how it works.
Glogster -- interactive posters--links to video, music and much more. free
Scratch -- free programming software; Mrs. Warren would install. Tips for use
Wikispaces -- create a free wiki here. Just make sure to lock your pages or your frenemies may edit them!
Gliffy -- Easily create professional-quality flowcharts, diagrams, floor plans, technical drawings, and more.
Google Earth -- Mrs Warren would install. Visit the Showcase and the Gallery to see trips others have created. . Tips for use
Screencast-O-Matic -- free screen capture software. Can post to Youtube or save as a video for later editing. No watermarks!
Edublog or Blogger -- create a personal blog for free. Blogger connects to gmail accounts if you have one.
Big Huge Labs -- create motivational posters, movie posters, collages, magazine covers--all online and free
Joyce Valenza's Copy Right Pathfinder--this pathfinder will better help you understand copyright as well as direct you to a wide variety of resources that you can use on a project without plagiarizing.
Xtranormal- Storytelling via cartoon characters. You type in your message with your chosen character and background. See your story come to life!
Bit Strips- This is also story telling with comics but it is only free with a 30 day trial and the characters speak via call out boxes verses actual sound.
Bubble Us- This is a website that you can use to create graphic organizers with information in each bubble.
Surveys:
Survey Monkey -- free account will let you have up to 10 questions; can post a URL for people to respond.
Google Forms -- if you have Google Docs, you can create a form; also has a URL to post--can embed in some sites as well.
Poll Everywhere -- free cell phone polls
Doodle Poll--free polling that allows users to enter their names and see other people's responses.
Organization:
Diigo -- bookmarks, highlights, sticky notes, screenshots---all in one free program
Live Binder -- 3-ring binder for the Web: Collect your resources and organize them neatly and easily
RPC- The Research Project Calculator is used to help you step-by-step with setting up and planning out your research project.
